I created a paypal button for the site and setup the IPN in my paypal account. The user makes the purchase and receives an ‘complete registration’ email. The problem I am having is that when the user clicks to complete, they get an ’email address already taken’. Checking back into wordpress, I noticed that under the wp membership -> members their account was created but they don’t exist under WP users. Can you please point me in the right direction?

    Thank You!

Hi, did your members register through WordPress or Simple Membership?

Please upgrade to the new version. You shouldn’t see this issue after that.

I upgraded the plugin and I get the same message.

mbrsolution, the members register using the form that resides at the link that is being emailed by the website after a successful payment. The Registration form was built using the custom form builder add-on that I have purchased from the website.

When the user pays the plugin will create a partial user record in the simple membership plugin (there shouldn’t be any WP user record at this stage).

The simple member record will have an empty username (meaning the user still hasn’t clicked on the unique link and completed the registration). Do you see a simple member record with an empty username for this user?

Yes I do. Also I created like I said the registration form using the form builder. When I did one of the fields is the email, but since that is already in the system, should I remove that field and maybe that way it will take it from the previous step you think?

I am having the same issue as alt3red.

I also have the most recent version 3.0.9

I wonder if this could be an advanced variables issue. I use advanced variables when creating the paypal button on the paypal site. (It’s the only way I could set things up the way my client wants).

Can you please remove any wp user account with that email address and then do the test?

Go to your WP users menu then search for that email. Do you see any entry in there with that email address?

I could delete said user from the WP users tab, but I have no way to “test” unless I contacted this person and asked for him to forward me the email he received after paying through paypal.
I think that is a little awkward since these users are strangers, and they probably wouldn’t want to share sensitive info with me.

Do a test yourself to make sure the plugin is generally working on your site.

If there is a particular issue with this one user then that is a different issue than if none of your users could signup normally.

Here is what the plugin expects for NEW users:

    1) A user comes to the site
    2) He doesn’t have an existing user account (not even WP user account).
    3) He makes a payment then he can register for an account.

You should do a test yourself to make sure the above scenario works on your site.

If there is a particular issue with this one user then that is a different issue than if none of your users could signup normally.

This has happened with the four most recent members, not just one.

And from a question above, these members do not show at all in the WP users tab.

    1) A user comes to the site
    2) He doesn’t have an existing user account (not even WP user account).
    3) He makes a payment then he can register for an account.

This is precisely how it is set up. It worked before, because we tested it. This has started happening since the install of the custom forms, just as the original author in this thread said.
Now this site is live, and the paypal connected to it is expensive, so I don’t want to hassle with a “trial” procedure.

See this image, where the plugin has made up a user with a first name, last name, and email… yet NO USERNAME. Thus, no one can effectively login.

I will investigate it and get back to you.

I’m having the exact same issue.

Users who attempt the registration after Paypal and get the ‘*email* Already taken’ error, have their first and last names and email saved in the list of Members under the Members tab, but they are not in the list of WP users under the Users.

The first and last names in the Members list are those from the Paypal account (and have not been inputted elsewhere), so it must be getting these and the email address from Paypal.

It seems to me there is an issue with the Form Builder add-on which, instead of using the email address from Paypal to auto-populate the registration email field (as the regular Simple WP Membership plugin registration form does), sees the email address in the list of Members and then gives the error that it’s already taken.

Disabling the Form Builder add-on and using the same Paypal / email address, I can register no problem.

I have tried this with new email addresses, and with all other plugins disabled apart from Simple WP Membership and the Form Builder add-on, using the default Twenty Fifteen theme – I still get the same error.

Would love a fix / solution for this!

We have applied a fix for this.

Please re-download a new copy of the addon and let me know how you go:
    https://simple-membership-plugin.com/re-download-the-purchased-addons/

    For anyone still having problems:
I received an updated version of the Form Builder add-on (Version 3.3) through a support ticket.
This, in combination with the latest version of the Simple WordPress Membership plugin (Version 3.1.0), fixed this issue for me.

Now, the email field in the registration form is populated with the Paypal email address (the First Name & Last Name fields too), and there is no ’email Already taken’ error – the new member gets saved.

    Happy this has been resolved!
