Email Authors when site updated

I’d like to use my blog as a forum for a community project I’m involved with.

Ideally I’d like to set up all the group members as authors so they can all contribute to the blog. Now, is it possible for these authors to receive email notices when a new blog post is added or when a comment is made on a blog post?

A plugin maybe?
