Email / Email account not accessible – Network errors etc…
-
Earlier I wrote a post about how I was experiencing issues getting to the email account from within the plugin and about how Nikunj bhatt’s blog post was a really good reference if you were using an environment like WAMPSERVER to run your site.
this is an update to that post, however, because the scope has changed, I am creating a new post rather than an update.
1)The issue at hand was that a few modules needed to be enabled in the php.ini & in the httpd.conf.
2) In the case where one is with a shared hosting provider & I am on Hostmonster, it is not certain this is possible. However, I find HM to be a good hosting partner so I decided to investigate a little bit first. Below are my finding & the solution.
3) Special Mention to Malcom from HM support who not only understood what I was trying to do but aslo could be bothered to check with the network Admins at HM and not just give me a canned answer. Good Job.
3.1) HM is using 995, 993 & 465 for their own mail service. That is obvious. What is not so obvious is that this the reason we cannot be assigned these ports. No matter if you buy a dedicated IP or not.
3.2) I suspect this is the case with most of the other hosting partners as well.
3.3) What was suggested was to setup forwarding from the gmail or public account to a hidden mail account within the hosting domain.
3.3.1) So in my case, the public account is [email protected] and the hidden account is [email protected]. In the gmail account, I set up forwarding of all mail.
3.4) Voila!! posts are now being created by email. Some observations : Is this an elegant solution, not really. does it solve the issue? Certainly does.
finally, sorry kat, but I think Postie may be a solution I will be setteling on for this site, but great work & keep it up. If I can help in any way, let me know.
Prakalp.
