    Hello,

Upon creating an account using Facebook, the new user receives an email to set the password. But on clicking/redirect you are already logged in and it redirects you to the /account/ page.

It either needs to not log you in automatically after registration, or the /reset/ page needs to not redirect automatically to /account/ if you’re logged in. (and if you change the URL to /reset/ it automatically takes you to /account/

Can you please help as currently new users cannot set a password after clicking on the link in the email. And under the change password tab, they cannot change the password as it asks for the old password which has not been set yet.

The problem seems to be because they are automatically being logged in after registration.

    Thanks

“Require Email Activation” in the Form Builder is also selected.

    Thanks

    Hi again,

Just to clarify, it works for normal email sign up. You get the email link to set the password and it is okay – as you are not logged in. It is for the social login, that it automatically logs in the user after registration, and that you then cannot set a password via the email link sent unless you log out again and click the link in the email.

    Thanks

    Hi @chiefochiefo,

The social login lets you register and also login. A user generally never has to set a password as they can just login via the social buttons.

That link is a way for them to reset their pass if for some reason their social profile email changes, it does require the user to be logged out.

I admit it could confuse users who don’t realize they don’t have to set a password. I’ll discuss this with the team but in the meantime perhaps adding a note in the email might suffice?

    Thanks,

    Stiofan

    Hi Stiofan,

Thank you for your reply and clarifying things.

The main issue is that the user that registers this way still has access to their profile area and can see the change password tab, but they have no old password to enter. And you get an error with whatever old password you try.

Any other site I have visited using social login allows you to still change the password within the account area after registration. This is the issue it now seems. It would not be an issue if they had the option. Expecting them to log out is just confusing as this process isn’t the norm (and I’ve used the internet a lot). Adding a note to the email is a short term solution. Thank you for your suggestion.

This is an example of another website if you would like to share it with the team, their account area once visited after registration – https://ibb.co/X8rWW8Y

And once the password is set – it reverts back to the regular change password tab.

I think this was overlooked and probably should be added in the future. I will probably disable social login for now and just use email as not to confuse users. I’m pretty logical so to me their user experience is impacted – and not everyone would check the welcome email.

Please let the team know, that would be great.

    All the best.

    This is released now ??

    Hi Stiofan,

Thank you for the release, I’ve checked the update.

It works but it looks like there is a slight bug. Please check on your end.

Once you sign up via Facebook, and go to the change password tab via the email link or account. You do see the ‘New Password’ field and you can set a new password (Great!). But if you log out of the site, and then log in with either Facebook or Username/Password and go to the change password tab again, you see again the ‘New Password’ field (this should show Old/New/Confirm Password fields now as password has already been set). Even though you have already set a password, it’s showing this ‘New Password’ bit twice. If you enter a password and press save though, it then refreshes the page to show Old/New/Confirm Password fields – to then enter the old password.

So it’s not 100% what you would expect but it does work eventually. It just repeats showing the ‘New Password’ field. That’s why I said it was a slight bug.

Thank you though for the fix. It is much better than before. So, that is great. And the plugin really is amazing!

    Warmest regards.
