• I don’t see any talk about email notification in the archives. so excuse me if this is a dead issue….
I’d like to be able to notify users of new content, with an opt-in checkbox in the profile.
Is this considered beyond the pale?
    Has anyone built one?
If I write a patch is it useful for inclusion in WP?

  • Yeah, because I had one of my email addresses down as a receiver and I definitely didn’t receive it. I’ve just done another blog didn’t receive it again, even though I got the admin copy sent to my other email address.

We know that my script is working, because at least one of the messages made it out.

If possible, I encourage you to contact your hosting provider, and ask them for the mail server logs relevant to this.

I’m trying to use the email notification but I don’t know how to install it. Do I just open the WordPress file and download its contents into my plugins folder? OR do I add the whole folder?

If you’re trying to use Skippy’s Subscribe2 plugin, the installation instructions are in the subscribe2.README file which is included in the download.

I’m trying to use the other one…

…I had some trouble downloading Skippys.

I just downloaded Skippy’s with no problems.

I’ll give it another go. Thanks

When I try to add subscribers I get:

Fatal error: Cannot instantiate non-existent class: cachedfilereader in /var/www/writing/wp-includes/wp-l10n.php on line 72

Hmm, managed to get my host to take a look at the server logs and they say everything’s okay, emails were being sent through. I published another entry and same thing, got it sent to my admin address but not the other address I have subscribed for testing purposes (haven’t asked others if they received it yet, but will). ??

slvhobbs: the cachedfilereader error you receive is due to the subscribe2.po and subscribe2.mo files in /wp-includes/plugins/. Delete them, and the plugin should work as expected. This should have been corrected in the latest release.

Christiaan: I suspect that something, somewhere, is filtering the messages. Feel free to subscribe my email address ([email protected]) and post a new item at your convenience. If I get the message, I’ll reply to it.

Thanks a million! Now… how do I ass subscribers? In the README file it just say to add them as I see fit. But I don’t know where to add them.
