I would check to see if the issue is with sending emails in general, which you can do with the following plugin:

Thanks Jeff, I’ll check that now.

    Hmm,

Installed the ‘check-email’ plugin, but I get a ‘500 Internal server error’ when I try to run it…

For what it’s worth, my contact form works.

Hmm.. not sure what may be happening, but I would investigate the 500 error maybe further by talking to your host. I do know that normally the email notifications work as expected with User Submitted Posts.

    Thanks Jeff,

I now believe the problem is something to do with WP itself, or Godaddy.

    Thanks anyway for your help.

While I’m here, I was hoping it’d be possible to change some of the input fields; ‘Your URL’ to ‘Your Email’ for example. Is that possible?

    Many thanks.

Sure, glad to help. Recommended way to customize the form:

    1) Copy the file /views/submission-form.php and paste into the /custom/ directory

    2) Then make any changes as desired. For example, to change the text for “Your URL”, simply locate the string and then change to whatever is required, e.g. “Your Email”.

    Got it, thanks!

Do I need to do anything to make the changes live? I’m not seeing any difference when I reload the page.

Just to test, I temporarily edited the file in the ‘views’ folder, and I could see the changes as soon as I refreshed. So it’s as if WP is not looking in the ‘custom’ folder.

EDIT: It’s ok, I worked it out. Checked the ‘custom’ box in the settings.

Thanks for all the help Jeff ??

Yes I was going to say.. I forgot about the setting to make it all so! But it looks like all is well and you got it all sorted. Let me know if I may be of service, and please if you get a chance take a moment to support the plugin with a positive review – it would really help. Thank you!

Please excuse me if I should start a new thread for this, but it’s on the same topic as the title. The email notifications are indeed not working now. Also thought it was WP or GoDaddy until I tried the Check E-Mail plugin you recommended. Those test emails work, as well as other form emails and new user registration emails. But no notifications are coming through when new user submitted posts are entered.

Here is a video of the email alerts working on a default install of WordPress:

If the email alerts are not working on your setup, I recommend troubleshooting by temporarily disabling other plugins, and also trying the default theme to see if the issue is theme related. I hope this helps.

    Bump

Check Email is working fine. No new post notifications are coming through. Any other suggestions to try? Using Twenty Fourteen theme.

Check your error log at the time of posting to see if there are any associated errors, that would be good info to have. Normally email alerts work fine, so it may be assumed that an error is involved in this case.

I’m also having email problems. Nothing is being sent to any of the chosen alert recipients.
Related fields are checked, post moves to pending, nothing sent. Other emails are working as normal.

I just re-tested the email notification on WP 4.1 and it works as advertised. I would try the email check plugin, troubleshoot other plugins, and then also try with the default theme. If you discover any actual errors or anything useful in that regard please post so I can investigate asap. Thank you.
