I have used this plugin successfully since last October without issue. Always got an immediate notification when a new comment was left.

Two days ago, that was still true.

Yesterday, I got close to a dozen comments, and not a single notification for any of them.

I did not install any new plugins. I did not update any plugins or WordPress. And I did not change the way in which the plugin was set up.

Are there any known issues that could be causing this problem?

Brent, There are no known issues for the plugin. With that said we are not actively developing the plugin. You may look into using an SMTP mail authentication plugin. That has been a solid answer for most mail issues when they are risen in the past.

    Thanks!

@brentjonesonline are you using Gmail? Maybe you ran into this: https://googleonlinesecurity.blogspot.ca/2014/04/new-security-measures-will-affect-older.html

Similar thing happened to me in December and I had no idea for months.

@eppand Thanks for the feedback. I find it very strange that I would suddenly stop receiving these notifications. I checked with other bloggers who use the same plugin, and they are still receiving email notifications. It appears I do sometimes, and sometimes I don’t.

I will try using SMTP mail authentication and see if that helps.

@postman SMTP I’m not sure I understand the link you sent me. I’m not very technical. What should I do?

@brentjonesonline the link I posted is an announcement from Google that says users may (suddenly) have problems connecting. But it only applies if you use Gmail.

Just going to mark this topic as resolved.

I didn’t have information to go on, so I was just guessing at your problem.

Now that I know your domain, I can tell you that you have a SPF record set to "v=spf1 a mx include:websitewelcome.com ~all" so this means for people not @brentjonesonline.com, they expect your email to come through a very specific SMTP server.

But your issue is receiving mail you send to yourself, I assume at HostGator? If I may guess again, I would say that HostGator made a change to their local system that is incompatible with how your WordPress currently sends email.

This is what I would do, If I were you. I would contact HostGator to get your SMTP settings (username, password, server hostname, server port, security type) and use an SMTP plugin (like Postman) to configure those settings in WordPress.

At the very least it will make debugging your issue a lot easier.
