I turned off “Publish posts by sending an email” and an email still went out on a new (alas duplicate) post. Did I do something wrong (besides spamming my subscribers)?

Oh no! I’m sorry this happened!

In looking at your site, though, right now it looks like Subscriptions are still active on the site. And I do also see that yes, the last post from your site went out twice. ??

At the risk of asking the obvious, are you certain that the feature is deactivated? If you go to Jetpack -> Settings -> Discussion -> Subscriptions, is the “Allow users to subscribe to your posts and comments and receive notifications via email” feature on or off? Like I said, on my end it looks like it’s still on, but maybe it didn’t save the setting properly. If it’s off, let me know!

If you didn’t modify the setting there, but did it elsewhere, please let me know what you did exactly. We’ll get to the bottom of this!

Thanks Richard, I think we have an answer. I went to Jetpack -> Settings -> Writing and turned off “Publish posts by sending an email” It was just the first email sounding option I came to. Apparently the wrong one.

I will keep this in mind (and it will be recorded here if I forget) if I ever have another problem that requires re-publication. (This was a weird situation–original post created a strange URL, and wouldn’t let me change it with an update.)

Yay, glad you figured it out! ?? We all make mistakes, so don’t feel bad about this one. Cheers!
