Email reminder to finish course in time

  • Can someone explain me how email form in admin and cron jobs are triggered. I want to create additional input to remind users to finish course on time.

    Usecase:
    If I set course duration is 10 days, I want to send email reminder – “You have 2 days remaining to finish the course.”, and day after “This is last day to finish the course”

    can someone guide me what files I need to look at?
