The Contact Form 7 forms that have worked for years recently started to fail with the sending failed message. The error had a red border. I talked with the hosting company’s support. They couldn’t find any sending attempts from my sites in their logs. Any suggestions? Is it possible to generate a log from the Contact Form 7 plugin to see where the failure is?

I have updated all the plugins and WordPress to the latest versions.

    Thank you for your help.

  • I’m having the same issue.
The data on the form is saved and I can retrieve it but the user is seeing a fail (red box) message and thus, sending multiple times. I am also not receiving email updates that the form has been submitted.
    Hoping this thread can help.

@naturenet – see I have the same problem! Can I just reply to someone else’s post with “Me too”?.

I’m having the same issue as the folk above – here are my details:

    Contact form 7.5.1
    ReCAPTCHA v3
    Wordpress 5.3.2
I’m running a site on OceanWP 1.7.3 with Elementor Pro 2.8.3 and another site on Sydney Pro 2.0.15 and SiteBuilder 2.10.13

They both use Contact Form 7 with ReCAPTCHA v3, each with their own set of keys site and secret keys that have been successfully entered into the ‘Integrations’ page for Contact – and each page on each site is showing the ReCAPTCHA badge in the bottom right corner.

Both have the most basic forms with the only change being to the ‘from’ email address being a valid email address within the domain.

Whenever a contact form is completed, the error message ‘There was an error trying to send your message. Please try again later.’ is shown, surrounded by a red outline.

Here’s one of the contact forms: https://thenewforestdoghotel.co.uk/contact-us/

I contacted my hosting service who have confirmed that there are no issues with the email functions of either site.
I’ve successfully sent a test message directly to the address I use for enquiries.
I’ve also successfully sent an email from that same address.
So the email functions are all working outside of the contact form.

    In Flamingo
The fields are complete as the data was entered into the form.

The message passes the ReCAPTCHA test:
    version “3.0”
    threshold 0.5
    response { “success”: true, “challenge_ts”: “2020-01-03T15:59:35Z”, “hostname”: “thenewforestdoghotel.co.uk”, “score”: 0.90000000000000002220446049250313080847263336181640625, “action”: “contactform” }

I can’t see why the contact form which worked previously, would no longer work.

I’ve followed the link above about configuring email and everything looks fine.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can get the form working again?

    Many thanks.

My problem is resolved. It was the PHP version 7.4. When we downgraded to 7.2, all contact forms started working. The support person at my hosting company (MDDHosting) told me 7.4 was too new and support for it was sporadic. I wouldn’t have figured it out with their help.

It was not just Contact Form 7. I tried another contact form plugin it had the same problem (except it didn’t even give me an error. It was highly rated. hmm…)

Glad Contact Form 7 is working again.

Many thanks @brae09 after some discussions with my web host, the problem was ultimately fixed by updating the secure transfer of information from the form to the mail application using the WPMailSMTP plugin.
