Email Users with S2 Member

I have had this plugin for a long time but have never been able to get it to work properly. It occurred to me today that I have S2Member plugin that has different member / user levels and that may be preventing it from working. Though, it may be some other issue. I am able to send one email to myself as a test and it works fine. If I send a bulk email either to groups or to individuals, it will tell me it was sent. The email log plugin will tell me an email was sent but none are actually sent. I have read through everything I could find and have tried all kinds of combos with no success. Any ideas on what might get it to work? Thanks very much for your help!
