email with new posts – no free lunch and paid too expensive
-
I continuously struggle with getting new blog post notifications flagged as spam with every host I have subscribed to. The latest ionos.com has after 20 years with me as a customer, they have begun recently disabling word press executables when the PHP WordPress routine sends an email as a result of a subscriber posting a simple comment, which in effect is now running all my subscribers away. I have a non-profit personal blog and my goal is to send an email to about 500 subscribers about twice a week as a new blog post is added.
Thus far I have found no free software to do this (all the “free” software out there is actually harvesting email addresses and other subscriber info) and all the paid software out there is charging way too much per email for a non-profit travel blogger to afford.
In the past when I have used some simple plugin that does not use any external mailing services, where the plugin simply sends the email notification outright via the host email facility, I often get flagged by the “no more than XX emails per hour” used by most virtual hosts. Almost all hosts have this “XX emails per hour” limit while none of them take into consideration that the emails only go out about twice a week and that sending twice a week goes over their limit even though it is a one time shot.
So how does a blogger honor your subscribers privacy by not selling out their email or contact information to some cheesy outfit like “free” services such as Jetpack, Google, etc and how do you continue to maintain subscriber integrity, yet if there actually is no real “free” service from the host you are on – then how do you find an affordable mailing service if you are only doing non-profit blogging as a travel writer and have found over the years your blog has gained enough popularity to the point of continuing to keep bumping the local host’s “xx emails per hour” flag even though the offending batch emailing only occurs about once or twice a week?
And please don’t suggest to monetize the blog because I am retired and don’t disrespect my own spare time to the point of adding a marketing effort nor my audience to a level large enough to coat my work in a wrapper of irritating ad material. Thanks in advance.
