We have a non-profit site with a subset of members that post by mail via postie.

Unfortunately there are some subjects that tend to be “standard” or frequently used as in today’s case “Sad News” when there is a death being reported.

The problem I am seeing is Postie is matching the incoming email to a wordpress post from April 2017 instead of the one posted today. There was an earlier post on Oct 6, 2015 which Postie did not match so I can guess you must limit the possible matches.

I wonder if Postie finds multiple matches to a post title, you it be changed to use the latest date match instead?

Years ago, back in the Postie 1.4 days, I modified my copy of postie to do that, but eventually realized it was a mistake to maintain my own version. Your postie filters have been a great help, but I have not found a way to match email replies using them.

Thanks for continuously updating postie Wayne. It is a much more reliable and effective plugin since you became author.

Thanks for the feedback. Just for you I’ve released a new version of Postie that by default now finds the most recent matching post when doing parent detection. Additionally I’ve added a filter so you can do your own parent lookup logic.

    Wayne,

I hope your update is useful for many people. It certainly will help our former mailing list members and probably me more than them because I had to rematch their comment emails to the correct posts each time they used the same subject.

The new postie filter gives us the ultimate choice of which posts to match but in our case I suspect using the latest date with a matching post title will already solve our problem.

Thanks for your excellent plugin and support.
