Hello there,

You worked on wordpress.tv and are hosting their videos and when i check the output on embed.ly when I copy/paste the url (layout like youtube) it recovers the video information as well as the embed iframe code:

(this is the exact output that I am looking for)

So I installed the free version of video press, uploaded one video and then pasted the url on embed.ly but nothing is being retrieved

Any idea why ?
I thought that this was your plugin allowing embed.ly to get all these informations.

Hey @lolofora!

We haven’t tried embed.ly, have you tried embedding the actual video URL instead of the post URL? In your first screenshot, you can see the video URL below the preview, on the right.

No it doesn’t work either with the video url:

(it is a 403 forbidden url) – maybe because this is a free account and I can just have a video ?

But the video is working on the website:

But none of them are working on embedly

Saying that as said in my previous message a full post url from wordpress.tv is working on embedly:

This is probably become coming from the direct url of the video all the “meta” informations coming with oembed cant be retrieved.

But you are saying that you never did anything to be “embedly” compatible/to become a provider ?

Hi!

I see that you tried with the actual file URL https://videos.files.wordpress.com/kphgZdLw/rick-astley-never-gonna-give-you-up-official-music-video.mp4, but I was suggesting you try with the video URL, as seen your screenshot just below the video preview on the right.

The video URL follows this pattern: https://video.wordpress.com/v/SOME VIDEO ID

I see, i indeed tried that url and this is not working either:

It sees it as a link and not a video (first field result “type”)

I definitly think this can’t work with the direct link to the video
But again on your website with a link “like on youtube” this is working

Hey there!

Ok, so I’ve dug a bit into this. The video you shared is private. oEmbed processes are meant to be discoverable in public, I’d recommend turning the video to public visibility before continuing.

From what I can see, oEmbed discovery links are provided on the main body of a video response as long as the video is public. You can inspect this public video’s HTML, look at the <head> tag, look for <link rel="alternate" ... />: https://videopress.com/v/P5NFP2ck

From there you’d get that the oEmbed URL would be something like:

https://public-api.wordpress.com/oembed/?for=wpcom-auto-discovery&url=https%3A%2F%2Fvideopress.com%2Fv%2FP5NFP2ck&format=xml

From that point on, it’s up to embed.ly to handle the oEmbed response properly.

I indeed missed the option and left the video private, I changed it:

It still sees the “type” as link and not video and nothing at all regarding the “html” iframe.

I did not notice it.

I’ll carry on my research …

We carried on our research and found this which might help:

Here is a different tool that you can test oembed with and it extracts everything as you’d expect.?https://debug.iframely.com/?uri=https%3A%2F%2Fvideo.wordpress.com%2Fv%2FOcC9IxUP.

There is an?oEmbed?tab on that page that extracts the type as?video?and has all of the other details.

I hope Embedly will respond with some information about how they support VideoPress URLs.
