WordPress does not come with some kind of video player. The video functionality only provides links and the file upload capabilities. If you want to embed a player for the file on the page, or convert the file to flash or something, you’ll need some kind of plugin.

    thanks for the answer

tiscover, I see show/hide kitchen sink icon in visual editor mode.
When the kitchen sink is showing, there is a button insert/edit embedded media. Clicking that gives you an option to embed video from the media library. Just copy the link of the uploaded video (you get this from the media library or when you upload a video), paste this link in File/URL field and hit insert.

    Its working for me ??

Thank you so much for pointing that out… it was driving me crazy and I could not find the answer anywhere else.

nims, you ROCK! I had been trying for HOURS to upload video, and was so frustrated until I saw your post…A MILLION THANKS!

I’m trying to get this to work.

    Steps I’m taking:

1)Upload flv video using the “Add Media: Add Video” button – File is added to wp-content/uploads/’year’/’month’/file_name.flv
    2) Click on “insert / edit embedded media” (green filmstrip)
    3) Paste in path to file. For example, I’ve tried both:
    wp-content/uploads/2008/07/file_name.flv
    and
    https://blog.mysite.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/file_name.flv
    4) I’ve tried setting and not setting the detentions of the video file

When I view my post there is no video. I right click on the blank area where the video should be and I get Adobe’s “About Adobe Flash Player 9” with a “Movie not loaded…” right above.

    What am I doing wrong?

pjman, i am having the same problem as you with a FLV video file.

Again, that “embed” thing just inserts an embedded object into the code. Then your browser has to know how to play that object. It does NOT create some kind of magical flash video player that will work on every browser. It will NOT work if the people viewing your site don’t have the programs needed to play your content.

And while that “embed” thing will work with Quicktime files (because Quicktime embeds into the browser to handle embedded QT files), an FLV file is not directly playable. It’s made for a Flash program to play.

Again, like I said before, you need some sort of video player or plugin to do this sort of thing.
