Embedding some latest posts on webpage

I have managed to get some blog posts on my non wordpress front page to my website thanks to https://www.corvidworks.com/articles/wordpress-content-on-other-pages
However I’d like to tweak them, less excerpt and perhaps a picture. Is this possible?
I’ve seen pages like it…or perhaps they were custom themes.
