In Edge: Version 108.0.1462.46 (Official build) (64-bit)

The embedpress plugin is being flagged as Unsafe Content by Microsoft Defender SmartScreen.

Users have reported a red screen over the embedpress pdf location with Microsoft Defender SmartScreen has blocked this unsafe content.

I have been able to replicate this and reported the URL as safe to Microsoft, however, it is not a great issue to have as my client is hosting their corporate presentation on this page.

I checked on Chrome and firefox and it does seem to be an Edge browser specific issue, although I did find a 404 console warning on chrome dev tools :Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 () related to the plugin viewer properties /wp-content/plugins/embedpress/assets/pdf/web/locale/en-GB/viewer.properties

Is there a solution to ensure that the plugin won’t get flagged as unsafe content? It is one of the best one’s I found, so I’d hate to have to replace it.

    Hello @kbdunne,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

We checked in from our end by uploading several PDFs, but we didn’t face any problem. Furthermore, we are extensively analyzing the issue with our devs team.

Sometimes it happens due to sensitive contents like sensitive personal & business info, credit card numbers, contact info, or software activation keys etc. It would be great if you could try with new PDF file and let us know if you face the same issue or not. Meanwhile, we are collaborating with our QA & devs team to reproduce the issue.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Hi @zebaafiashama ,

I tried another pdf, went to the desktop version of EDGE (I’ve noticed this doesn’t happen on Mobile Edge). Added a new PDF and immediately had the same issue with Potentially unsafe content flagged in EDGE.

Have your devs found any reason why /wp-content/plugins/embedpress/assets/pdf/web/locale/en-GB/viewer.properties is flagged as a 404 on console? Could this be related?

I created a duplicate of the page and updated the PDF, so you can see that the same issue is happening with the red warning for for the pdf plugin on this page as well: https://smallpharma.com/corporate-presentation-2/

Hi @zebaafiashama, I’m afraid I didn’t get to trying the development version you provided. I needed a faster solution for my client and found that there was a lot of write ups online about non-specific plugin issues with pdfviewers using js and Edge marking them as unsafe content . Instead, I switched plugins to one that wasn’t being flagged, which got rid of the console error and the Microsoft defender warning on Edge Browsers.

The issue has been resolved by changing plugins

I had the same problem: A red screen in MS Edge, but no problems in FF or Chrome. I clicked the link above to download the development version. This ended up downgrading from 3.6.4 to 3.6.3. The plugin now displays the PDF properly in MS Edge.

What will be in the future?
