emdash appearance error

Hi there. I just upgraded to 2.9.1 and have found that anywhere we have an emdash — they appear with odd characters. This wasn’t the case with our old version. I’m not sure what I can check…the encoding in the WP manager interface is UTF-8. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
