• Hi. I’ve seen this posted elsewhere on the forums, but have not come across a solution that applies to my own issue. Periodically, at random, a folder called “blog” is created in my home directory. The issue is that our blog permalink is mywebsite/blog, so this breaks that link. My first thought was that an old subdomain was still defined on our webserver (we used to have one for our blog, incidentally), but this is not the case, and interestingly, within the folder, I find that a wp-content/uploads/2006 folder structure has been created, with no content. This leads me to believe that WordPress is the culprit. Does anyone have any thought on this, or is anyone having the same issue? This has become incredibly frustrating, so any help would be very much appreciated.

The obvious fix would be to just change my blog permalink to something else and forget about it, but I’d like to save that as a last resort, since doing so would brake any external links to our blog.

    Thanks!

WordPress itself does not create any blog folders. Nor would it replicate itself in this manner. It does sounds far more like a server/hosting issue. Have you spoken to your hosts about it?

Thanks, esmi. I have not, just yet. However, how would that explain this WordPress folder structure that exists within folder every time it appears? When I configure a new subdomain, for instance, it just creates an empty folder.

Best guess: Something to do with your server/hosts is re-creating these folders. Maybe something to do with your hosts’ backup system that is broken and ends up duplicating your site’s folders but stops (falls over?) before it can add any files.

Are you running any backup plugins?
