• After installing, deleting or updating plugins, why do I get a message at the top of my admin WordPress page with the following message?

One or more plugins have been activated or deactivated, please empty the page cache and check the minify settings to maintain the desired user experience. Hide this Message.

Which option is preferable to select? Why?
What actually happens with I empty the page cache? Can the search engines still find my site?

Looking forward to the clarification shortly.
    Susanne

  • Hi Susanne,

When you install, delete or update a plugin, it (generally) changes how your site looks, how it works, etc.

W3TC is letting you know that if you desire to see reflected on your website the changes the installation, deletion or update of a plugin has caused, you must purge the cache so that a new cache, with the changes made, can be generated.

Otherwise, the changes will not be reflected until (or if) a new set of cached pages are generated automatically. Automatic cache generation may happen at different times for different pages; so, purging them all at once assists with maintaining the user experience you hope to achieve with your plugins.

After installing, deleting or updating plugins, you want to check the minify settings since, as just one example, and if minifying manually, a new plugin’s JavaScript files will not automatically combine themselves into an existing, manually created combined file.

    Best,
    AJ
