empty space is included on the Dashboard above the main content of the page
-
I have cleared caches, used 2 different browsers, purged CDN and disabled plugins one by one.
If I deactivate SHORTPIXEL, clear cache and then reactivate I get the “quota exceeded” dialog at the top of the dashboard. If I try to dismiss it, it does not dismiss.
However, if I refresh the browser, a bunch of empty space is included on the Dashboard above the main content of the page again and the “dismiss” dialog is gone.`

Hi @badknees,
Could you please update the plugin to version 5.0.2? The issue should be fixed there.
Have a nice Sunday!
Upgrading to 5.0.1 is what caused this behavior to begin and upgrading to 5.0.2 did not fix the problem.

Hi badknees,
Okay, let’s start from scratch then. Could you please:
- Completely remove the plugin (no need to delete its settings)
- Deactivate all plugins
- Change your theme to a default one (for example, Twenty Twenty-Two)
- Clear your plugin cache, hosting cache, CDN cache and browser cache, following this article
- Install ShortPixel, keeping the rest of plugins deactivated.
Now, does the issue still happen?
In addition, please send us the information from Tools > Site Health > Info. There’s a button there to copy it, so simply paste it here.
Thank you!
Followed your recommendations and the outcome is the same…

Yeah, I have no idea why at this point, but I too have had this issue resurface on sites where I updated to 5.0.2 and had it appear to be resolved with me now revising the Dashboard of these sites days later to see that empty space being shown just like before the previous update.
What’s interesting is that I needed to deactivate the ShortPixel Image Optimizer plugin and re-activate it to have it be fixed again.
Not really sure what would’ve caused the issue to resurface where this needed to be done, though, since it definitely appeared to be fixed before now.
*Actually… it appears that trying to dismiss the Quota Exceeded notice (while it appears to do nothing) has the notice not be shown on refresh. Unfortunately, the notice not being shown at that point means the empty space is then left as showing again.
So it seems the empty space was resolved for when the Quota Exceeded notice is supposed to be shown while it’s still buggy when the notice has been dismissed.
I’m thinking the CSS & things for the modal/notice/etc. isn’t loaded if the notice has been dismissed (which is good), but the HTML for the modal placeholder/etc. (which has inline styles making it show as that big empty space on page) is still being included even if the notice was dismissed.
It seems this additional piece needs to be updated to accommodate this scenario (quota is exceeded with the notice saying that having been dismissed) as well (with quota exceeded while the notice is allowed to be shown having been fixed in 5.0.2.)

Precisely what I’m seeing!
Thanks for the quick turnaround!
Well, it SEEMS to have fixed it. I’m no longer getting the empty space in the dashboard, post edit page and page edit. However when I tried to dismiss the quota warning there is no reaction, but refreshing the dashboard clears it. Not sure if that’s still buggy
It looks like the empty space is no longer there after the notice has been dismissed in 5.0.3. Looks good to me!
@badknees Correct. That second issue hasn’t been fixed in 5.0.3 yet. I have https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/quota-exceeded-notice-cannot-be-dismissed-on-dashboard/#post-15757682 opened to resolve that issue specifically (with a PR submitted on GitHub so hopefully it will be fixed in the next release.)
Marking this thread as resolved then. ??
