    Hello,

the site is using DE-formal, but German version of the string “Click here to display content from YouTube” seems not to be displayed, as you can see on this screenshot.

I have already run a plugin-conflict test on a staging-site, but the issue remains. You can see the page of the staging-version (where all plugins are disabled except for embed privacy & theme is switched to twenty twenty three) here.

Is this a known bug, which will be solved in upcoming updates? Let me know if I can help troubleshooting this by providing admin-access to the staging site.

Thank you in advance and kind regards
    Sascha

    Hi there,

this text is stored into the database on installation. Is it possible that the website had another language defined when you installed the plugin?

As a workaround, this text can be changed in Settings > Embed Privacy > Manage embeds for every embed provider.

Many thanks for your prompt reply!

“Is it possible that the website had another language defined when you installed the plugin?”

No, site-language has been DE_formal all the time, although I my admin-profile lang is set to EN. But the screenshot and testing took place in Incognito & also on second browser & phone too.

“Settings > Embed Privacy > Manage embeds for every embed provider.”

Didn’t know this, perfect, thanks ??

Is it possible for me to get access to a test instance, in best case including file access or an enabled file editor for easier debugging? If yes, feel free to send credentials to [email protected].

It’s the second time I receive such a report but, unfortunately, I couldn’t reproduce it the first time.

Marking this as resolved since there was no update. If you can send me a test environment, it would be great!

    The issue happens here too!

The problem is, that there are multiple versions of German in WordPress:

    • German formal (de_DE_formal)
    • German informal (de_DE)
    • German Austria (de_AT)
    • German Swiss formal (de_CH)
    • German Swiss informal (de_CH_informal)

So if your plugin only contains text for “de_DE” this will only work for “German informal” but no any of the other variants. If you use the translations for “de_DE” for any other variant, it should be OK, since there are no major differences – except “formal” uses “Sie/Ihre” while “informal” uses “Du/Deine” for “you/yours”.

BTW: I am a native German speaker and also maintainer of a number of WordPress plugins, so if you need any assistance with that, just let me know.

You’re always free in supporting by adding translations on https://translate.www.ads-software.com/projects/wp-plugins/embed-privacy/. However, since I’m also native German and also a global project translation editor, I always add German translations, the formal as well as the informal variant. Since Austrian and Swiss versions have different glossaries, I don’t add them myself.

This particular problem is not about missing translations of the plugin in general, though. If you have any problems with that, this is not the right topic for you.

Well – if German exists, it seems not to be used at all. I tested it on three different websites and my development environment – German strings are not added at all. Maybe there is some issue if the translations are not provided by the plugin itself but the WP translation project – because the WP translation are usually installed after the plugin. That’s one of the reasons why I include MO/PO files with my plugins to be sure.

It depends how the installation was done. I know there is a problem here and I will change that in the future. However, it basically works, since this problem is rather rarely reported and I use it on multiple different WordPress instances with formal and informal variant without a problem.

The installation was always done the same way – installation using the WP plugin repository in the backend of the website. I can reproduce the effect every time – German is never added.
