Enable additional payment methods
-
I am Oceania based. My country is correct on WC, Stripe, shipping etc.
WC Payments gives me options to add methods that are “Popular in your country”. The available options are as follows, with an excerpt from the info for each:
Bancontact – bank redirect payment method in Belgium.
EPS — a common payment method in Austria.
giropay — Germany’s second most popular payment system.
iDEAL — Netherlands’s most popular payment method.
Przelewy24 (P24), the most popular payment method in Poland.Obviously these are all EU payment options, which WC claims are “Popular in your country”. How do I have WC display options that are correct for my region, as the only options available are not relevant?
Thank you

Hi there @justanotherguy,
Thank you for reaching out!
I understand your concern about the payment options showing up as popular in your country on WooCommerce Payments.
Currently, these suggestions are based on the location set in your WooCommerce settings. However, it seems there might be a discrepancy in recognizing your actual region, hence the EU payment options.
To rectify this, please try changing your base location under WooCommerce > Settings > General, then make sure to set it back to your correct location in Oceania. This should help WooCommerce Payments to suggest the payment methods popular in your geographical area.
Please try this and let us know how it goes.
I did as suggested. I changed to a different country, saved and then changed back. It still had the same EU options.
I then changed country to USA – Alabama, saved, and checked the options that are “Popular in your country”. I expected to see options relevant to USA, but, it still had the SAME EU options.
I then changed back to my country and the EU options remained.
Regardless of the country selected under WooCommerce > Settings > General, the WC Payments plugin only offers irrelevant EU payment options.
Hi again @justanotherguy,
Thanks again for reaching out.
To understand your site better, could you please include your?System Status Report?that you can find via?
WooCommerce > Status
. Select?Get system report
?and then?Copy for support
.Once you’ve done that, you can paste it into your reply here.
There is a lot of info on that report that I do not wish to make public.
I have followed the instructions, and it did not work. I have changed to a 3rd country and checked the options, and it still shows EU. There is an issue somewhere.
Please advise.
Hi there @justanotherguy ??
Please note, WooPayments can take payments from customers using credit and debit cards, as well as additional forms of payment. Some of these payment methods may only be available in certain countries or regions, while others are only available on certain types of devices. They can be found summarized here.
Therefore, consider enabling all the available ways to receive payments for the regions your customers are in.
Among the buy now, pay later methods options offered, Afterpay appears to be the one supporting Australia and New Zealand, currently.
Express checkout methods, like Apple Pay & Google Pay, are available in your region, also.
A number of additional payment methods can be enabled, too. BECS Direct Debit (closed beta) appears to be the one currently supporting Australia. See our full list of additional payment methods for more info.
For more details on closed betas, see here.
Feel free to provide feedback to our team. I hope this is helpful! Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Previous advice from ckadenge was “Currently, these suggestions are based on the location set in your WooCommerce settings”, current advice from anastas10s is “consider enabling all the available ways to receive payments for the regions your customers are in”. It feels like no-one has a firm grip on the situation.
I am Oceania-based, but the payment options displayed are EU only, with WC claiming these options are “Popular in your country”. I changed my location on WC to USA, and the options remained the same. Why would I ever enable EU payment options for customers in my region?
I have come up with two possible reasons for this issue, [1] WC purposely displays the same options world-wide, despite the claim of “Popular in your country”, [2] there is a fault with the system, resulting in the same options being displayed.
Are there actually payment options for my region…?
Hi there @justanotherguy ??
Why would I ever enable EU payment options for customers in my region?
Please note that selling both physical and digital/virtual goods is possible with WooCommerce.
Therefore, a shop might be based in Australia (for business reasons), while it is selling digital (or even physical) goods all over Europe, as an example. The European-based customers will need payment options available that allow them to pay.
Are there actually payment options for my region…?
For store owners who want to enable payment methods for the Oceania-based customers at their store, the following are available via WooPayments, at the time of writing:
- Credit and debit cards
- Apple Pay & Google Pay, from the list of Express checkout methods
- BECS Direct Debit (closed beta), from the list of additional payment methods
- Afterpay, from the buy now, pay later methods
I trust this provides clarity, but if you have more questions, let us know.
We’re happy to help.

Let me make this simple – why is there a statement that the EU payments are “Popular in your country”, when I am not in EU…? And, as per previous, I was informed that it is only showing EU payments due to an issue with my country settings on WC.
I am only acting on what I see on my screen, ie: “Popular in your country”; and, the advice that there is an issue with my settings.
Telling me that I *might* have customers in EU does not address either of those issues. The first issue being my original q, and the second issue being the advice I was given by ckadenge. It now really feels like those whole thing is just confusion brought about by incorrect statements on WC payments, and incorrect advice from ckadenge.
Hello @justanotherguy,
We appreciate your feedback so far!Let me make this simple – why is there a statement that the EU payments are “Popular in your country”, when I am not in EU…? And, as per previous, I was informed that it is only showing EU payments due to an issue with my country settings on WC.
To help us better understand what you’re referring to, could you please attach a screenshot of where you’re seeing this notice? This is how the settings dashboard looks from my end:

Hi there @justanotherguy ??
Thank you for reaching back, with the screenshot showcasing where the phrase “Popular in your country” appeared on your end.
I’d like to loop back to the original inquiry:
Obviously these are all EU payment options, which WC claims are “Popular in your country”. How do I have WC display options that are correct for my region, as the only options available are not relevant?
Kindly contact us at Woo.com > My Account > Support. You may need to create an account before you can access that page.

Moreover, could you let us know, while submitting the ticket, specifically from which country this issue is encountered, and what you’d expect with regard to the section “Enable additional payment methods” during setup?
We will be able to help you further there.
