I have successfully installed your plugin on two of my websites without any problems. I am now installing it on a third and keep getting locked out when I enable the “hide backend feature”. I really LOVE this feature and would like to be able to use it, but for some reason it is not working on this particular website <<https://hugheshvac.ca>>

I have tried the word I want to use, went back to the suggested wplogin and it still didn’t work. I ended up having to change the name of the plugin via FTP to disable it, login and then uncheck the feature.

Is this a bug? If so, why is it working on two of my other sites? What is the solution?

    Thanks!

  • Hey Ma3ry,

Could you try checking for a plugin conflict? Deactivate all other plugins and see if that helps. If it does help, then reactivate the plugins one at a time to fund the culprit(s), if any.

If that doesn’t help could you try switching to a WordPress default like Twenty Fourteen and see if that helps?

    Thanks,

First I changed the theme. Still got locked out. Then I deactivated all the plugins and I was able to get in so I figured that put the conflict in the plugins, instead of the themes.

Next I activated all of my plugins except the generatepress ones. I was still locked out so I figured that narrowed it down to one of the generatepress plugins, so I then tried deactivating them all and testing them one by one.

Well voila! I don’t know what happened but I have my original theme and all of my plugins activated and it is working just fine. So whatever happened, it fixed itself and I thank you!

I goofed! Sorry but it’s not fix. When I changed the name of the plugin via FTP everything was resolved. I’d forgotten to change it back. Am going to start the process again.

    Hey Ma3ry,

Oops. ?? Thanks for the update. Please let me know what you find.

    Thanks,

What should the main “better-wp-security” folder be CHMOD’s to?

All works if it is 766 but anything tighter and I get page not found.

    Hey Ma3ry,

The permissions should be 775. If this is causing problems it’s likely some type of server misconfiguration. You might want to check with your host about this.

    Thanks,

Many thanks Gerroald! All is working well when CHMOD’d to 755. I suspect that may have been the original problem, that somehow it got changed.

Thanks for all your help! How do I mark this “resolved”?
