    Hi there,

Could you please help me understand why enable media replace isn’t working on my site? when i replace files, redirections aren’t been created; you can see that a redirection isn’t in place for the file at the above (previous) link.

If you need any other info, let me know

    Many thanks

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi fixasb,

What do you mean by redirections? The plugin is only supposed to replace the physical files, but it will not redirect to the new file when you access the old URL, if this is what you mean.

    Hi Gerard,

Thanks for your reply; when replacing the file, however, you are asked to either choose to keep the same name, or update the name. It is mentioned there that all links pointing to the old file will be updated to point to the new one; see image attached (sorty but i have it in french). Besides, it makes complete sense, that if i am replacing a file but changing its name, that redirections should automatically be created.

Hope that better explains my problem,

    Many thanks

    Hi fixasb,

I think there is a misunderstanding here. The plugin mentions that all links pointing to the current file will be updated to point to the new file name. But this refers to the links you have entered in your pages. In other words, the plugin scans your pages and changes all links that point to the old file.

However, it is different if you try to access your old link manually. This means that if you enter the old link in the address bar of your browser, you will of course access the old link. No redirection will happen, as this is not the aim of our plugin.

I hope this clears up your doubts ??

    Thanks Gerard,

But i’m indeed having problems with those redirections created on pages that pointed to the old file despite the replacement been made via your plugin, like this one:

Treuil électrique de levage Liftho NEO, 600-1000kg, 230v et 400v. (fixator.fr)

You can notice the old file link that i shared above hasn’t been changed on this page; could you advise why this isn’t happening?

    Hello @fixasb,

If I understand it correctly, you have replaced the file mentioned above with another one, and on the page from your latest reply, the button “Documentation Commerciale” still points to the old file?

If this is the issue, can you please tell us how is that file added to the product page? Are you using some sort of page builder, or maybe a plugin to create that button & link? Our plugin searches through the database for the filename, but depending on the way it is stored there (sometimes encoded, serialized, or stored in custom tables, etc.) the search & replace might fail.

    Thank you!

    Hi @petredobrescu,

Our documents are added in two ways: the button on the product page “Documentation Commerciale” is created with ACF; but all our commercial and technical documents are also accessible on our documentation page Centre documentaire – FIXATOR : Fabricant de treuils, plateformes suspendues, nacelles… and are uploaded with the plugin Document Library Pro (the tech ones are private); i hope we can find a way to make your plugin work with them!

    Many thanks

    Hello @fixasb,

I ran a few tests with Document Library Lite (we don’t have access to the Pro version) and it looks like everything is working fine. What I did was this:

    • I created a new document and uploaded a PDF attached to it
    • It was displayed on the newly created Document Library page on my test website
    • Then I went and changed the PDF file with another one, with a different name and chose the option “Replace the file, use the new file name, and update all links”
    • Then I went to the Document Library and I could download the new document without any issues or errors

Once again, our plugin does NOT add any redirects following these replacements, because the new files should be available instead of the previous ones.

    I have some additional questions:

    • Can you tell me what was the exact name of the previous documentation file from this URL?
    • Can you also tell me what is the exact name of the new documentation file?
    • Do you see the new documentation file in your Media Library?

I’m just trying to understand if the replacement has actually been done or not and if the issue is a display issue, rather than a replacement issue.

    Thank you!

    Hi @petredobrescu,

I followed exactly the procedure you mention above for the file replacement; to reply to your questions, this is the old url, and this is the new one, and yes, the new file does appear on my media library, but so does the old one (it hasn’t therefore been “replaced”, but i don’t know if your plugin is supposed to delete it). On the page you mentioned, however, the document is uploaded via a button created with ACF, whilst on this page it is linked via the Document Library Pro plugin.

If it helps, I could give you access to our staging site, let me know what you think is best.

    Many thanks for your help!

    Hello @fixasb,

yes, the new file does appear on my media library, but so does the old one (it hasn’t therefore been “replaced”, but i don’t know if your plugin is supposed to delete it).

This is not supposed to happen, because our plugin actually replaces the file, without creating a new item in the Media Library. Most likely there is something interfering with the whole process, otherwise I could not explain such a behavior.

If it helps, I could give you access to our staging site, let me know what you think is best.

As you saw already, this is not permitted here, on the public forums. Considering that we are not able to reproduce your issue on our test environments, please contact us mentioning this ticket and we’ll continue the investigation privately. After we find a solution, we’ll be back here to clarify what was the cause of all this.

    Thank you!
