Trying to change the look and feel of //localhost/wordpress. Constantly get this error message. WTF is “enable sending referrers” mean? I have looked high and low to ‘enable’ whatever sending referrers are… ??

    TIA

BTW: don’t go to xlseer.wordpress…. that’s not it.

  • Try adding a trailing slash at the end of both lines. If that doesn’t get it, I’m not sure what else to say. At that point it becomes a server setup problem, and we’re really not equipped to deal with that in depth….

I have had trouble all day with this. It was supposed to be an hour deal. Guess it won’t hurt to trash the whole thing and start over – not like it will ruin my day. LOL!

    Thanks for your time.

Well, good luck. I had one hell of a time setting up wp to run “normally” on XAMPP – even though everything else was so easy a 2 year old could have done it.

Post back when you get it sorted, okay?

If you’re going to use XAMPP, try following this guide while you set everything up: https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/xampp/

macmanx: that is the site I have followed to the letter.

I have loaded|unloaded numerous times now with the same errors. Reminds me of something my father used to say: “Doing the same old things the same old way expecting better results is called insanity.”

I really am at a loss now other than to forget being able to edit my blog locally. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks all

The address bar holds this address https://localhost/wordpress/wp-admin/updated=true that produces Object not found! Error 404. I am not very familiar with all the ins and outs of http headers and response, etc. But that looks screwy to me…

    Easy,in your /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf,edit two lines:
    1.
    # DocumentRoot: The directory out of which you will serve your documents. By default, all requests are taken from this directory, but symbolic links and aliases may be used to point to other locations.
    #

    DocumentRoot “/var/www/html/wordpress”

    2.
    # This should be changed to whatever you set DocumentRoot to.
    #

    <Directory “/var/www/html/wordpress”>

    Wish you good luck!

That’s not it: Document root is C:/Program Files/../htdocs.
I don’t know what’s going on now – all requests return 404. https://localhost returns 404. Main page will come up but with no themes https://localhost/wordpress. Any link on the page results in 404. Yes the server is on…

I am running virus check now. But I doubt that is it.

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Enable_Sending_Referrers

This site deals directly with this issue.

Interestingly, downloaded and installed wordpress2.0at work and it worked flawlessly the first time. Go figure..

All that f%@#%!!! around and it was my firewall all along. Norton 2006. Need to ‘allow’ localhost. Its rediculous I know but – situation normal now – for awhile. The link above put me wise to this little misadventure.

    Thanks all

    Glad it’s sorted!
