With the plugin enabled, everything works except:

    • the ‘upload new cover image’ button on the plugin settings does nothing
    • the ‘add media’ button on the regular new post screen ceases to work
    • other backend buttons stop working … like ‘Show password’ when adding a user

Disabling the plugin resolves the issues with the other buttons – so it must be a code clash or something … but of course that then stops me from using the plugin.

I’m unable to replicate this on any server – please rule out a plugin/theme conflict by disabling all of your other plugins and switching to a default WordPress theme.

There’s no reason why this plugin would be affecting buttons on any other page (like the show password button), so the problem is most likely in a different plugin.

Hi Hugh – thanks for feedback. Yes it does seem to be a conflict with my custom theme, switching to a WordPress stock theme and things start working.

I’ll get onto my theme author, but if you can think of any pointers they may want to follow to narrow down quicker, that would be greatly appreciated.

If those buttons aren’t working then the probably is almost definitely that there is a Javascript issue, but without seeing the debug console, there’s no way of knowing where the actual bug is. The problem with Javascript is that if there is one small bug in one file then it breaks all the subsequent Javascript that loads on the page. You’ll need to have the theme author debug the issue on their side.

Yep – found our culprit javascript. All working now thankyou!
