ok I am very new to WordPress and I am only trying to
set a default/splash page on my blog.

I thought maybe the post id for a particular page will allow me
    to do this.

On the actual post [Post/Edit Post] I placed [post id=12] on the top of the page, then I go to Settings/Reading too see if this new page appeared under Front Page/Post page drop down menu in order to select it as the default Post Page.

I am only trying to put 2 + 2 together. Not sure if this is how it works.

    What am i doing wrong?

    Thanks
    Dave

  • not that way
it must be a Page not a post

you can create a Page with whatever you want
then go to settings – reading and select that as home page

also, you can create an empty Page titled Blog and assign your posts to that

Ok I did see a way to create a new page and assign it under Settings/Reading after searching the forums but this is after the fact.

I had to end up copying the content of the existing post to do so.

Now, can I assign this new default page to a certain category?

    I don’t see that option.

    Thanks again

    oops sorry

    Our posts got crossed.

    >>it must be a Page not a post<<

    I guess that means negative.

However, I need to say that my gallery can be both post and default page. I thought it was also possible with a new page.

    Thanks
    Dave
