Ok, I’ve done the requisite 1/2-hour plus of research here, but am still not understanding how to incorporate “tags” into my blog. I am using Version 2.5. I can see the “tags cloud widget” and so will eventually know how to get that into my sidebar.

And under “Manage” I see “Tags”.

WHERE I AM HAVING A PROBLEM is the concept of the “Tag Slug”. What do I put in there?

And is there something I have to do to the theme template itself, or does Version 2.5 and the Tags Widget and Managing Tags somehow take care of that?

    Thanks very much in advance.

  • Tag slug is typically the same as the tag name. Also note tags can be created, on the fly, by just using them when writing a post.

If you use the WordPress Default theme, when the posts are displayed, any tags assigned to a post are displayed below the post’s content by the Template Tag, the tags().

Since you are using 2.5.1, you can add the Tag Cloud Widget in Design->Widgets so that appears in the sidebar. Again use the WordPress Default theme to see how it works.

Thanks a lot for the prompt response. I’ll try the “on the fly” method.

I’m not using the Default Theme, and when I went back and edited an entry to add a tag, nothing displayed.

    My blog is at https://www.jerrypettit.com/blog

The most current post there–a video about the war in Gaza–I attempted an edit wherein I tagged it as “war” with the slug also being “war”. Did a new “Save”, and went back to the post but there is no change. The tag “war” is not showing.

Does this mean I need to add some kind of line to my template and, if so, what and where?

Again, thanks for the prompt response.

If I understand your request, you have to edit your theme’s Main Index Page (index.php) in a way like is shown in the link provided above by the moderator. Have you done that?

No, but will. I wasn’t sure if template needed to be edited, and now see that it does.

    Thanks for all help.
