Following advice in the Codex here I used the recommended email address encoder to write the code (I’m not sure of the technical term – is it asci or hexadecimal maybe?) for some email addresses. Using the HTML editor, I copied this into some posts for a FAQ I’m building. Then switched back into the visual editor to continue writing the posts.

When I looked in the HTML editor again, the code has vanished and there only appeared to be normal letters. Has the code truly disappeared, leaving the email addresses vulnerable to harvesters? Or is is still lurking there even though I can’t see it in the HTML editor?

If it’s gone, is there anything I can do to make it stay put when I try again? Or how else can I protect the addresses? My group members are mostly not very IT confident so it really has to be as simple for them to understand as possible. As long as it’s clear for members to interpret, it doesn’t have to be clickable. And ideally it should be accessible for people with visual impairment. I tried one site that made an image of the address, but it didn’t line up very well when I inserted it into the post.

To see what I’m working on, my test site is https://clareredstone.co.uk/faq-for-email-discussion-group. Click on “How do I join the group? – Email interface” for an example.

    Thank you.

    Clare
