Encryption of Passwords/Access Keys

Does BackWPup encrypt the saved passwords/access keys in the database? Concern is specifically for Amazon S3, to protect our files there, even if someone hacks and grabs our database.

Is there anyway to ensure protection for our access key? I saw in the code something about a .static file, but am unsure as to how this works, and whether it can accomplish what we want. Can you please explain if that would work?
