• My install is multisite: one main site and one sub-site. I activated the plugin on the network. Then, I use the plugin (settings, schedule, etc) only on the main site, am I right ? That’s the way I do it on another multisite of mine and it works perfectly.

I must have made a mistake when setting up the plugin (a few days ago)…
On the “General settings” page (main site), I see “Encryption type: None (not recommanded)”. I have an encryption key though. When I click “Show”, it shows it.
The thing is that I don’t seem to be able to set the right Encryption type. A permanent overlighted message says “Encryption details CANNOT be changed because Online Backup is currently active.
Online Backup is incremental – that is, only changes made between backups are actually sent to the online vault – and so the encryption details used for each backup must remain the same.”

    So my questions :
    1) Is the “Encryption type: None” a problem ?
    2) If so, is there a way to change it?

Additional info: on the subsite, the Encryption is the right type (AES128) but that’s not where I schedule my backups, so I don’t know if it’s useful…

    Hi,

If the main site says No encryption, no encryption will be used.

The key is stored separately so you could momentarily disable encryption for a single backup if needed – although this is not possible when using online backup – something we’re improving when we finish the next user interface which will be even simpler.

The plugin shouldn’t actually be available in the sub-sites and should ONLY appear in the main site, since we don’t support per-site backup – it does a backup of WordPress in it’s entirety, multi-site or not. I’ll look into this and make sure this is happening as from what you say it seems it’s not!

“If the main site says No encryption, no encryption will be used.”

OK. Then I ask again my first question: is it very annoying ? or not very important ?
If I uninstall and reinstall, would I be able to set AES128 as Encryption type ?

Indeed I just checked the online vault. For my other musltisite install, the vault shows a folder for each site (main site and each sub-site) but for this new multisite, it shows only one folder. The one for the main site.
So I guess there is a problem, right ?

    Hi,

It just means no encryption will be enabled I think which is fine only if that’s what you want. To change we’d need to delete all data online and start backup again. Lets investigate and fix any issues though first and we can check settings later!

Can you go to the Tools -> Online Backup then click Help & Support link. It should give some information about your plugin version, host features and also WP and PHP versions. Can you post that stuff here for me?

    Thanks

    Thanks.

I’ve been looking through and it’s going to take some time to make the plugin work as we would want in multisite. I think in the current state it’s just not going to work fully as there appears to be a lot we need to do.

Multisite is never something we’ve planned for and we’ve only done small changes to try keep it “functional” but its not enough it seems.

If you give me a couple week Ill get a multisite setup to test with and do some more changes to sort it out since it needs doing sooner or later. I think the goal is to make the plugin report a warning if activated on a sub site and for it to not be accessible. It can then require network activate which will make it available but only to the network admin. That would be how it should be.

Yes, or have the plugin activated on the network but have the settings only available on main site. Some plugins work that way on multisite installs. But I’m totally ignorant, you’ll know best what to do.

Yes, I’d be happy to wait a couple of weeks if it helps get the plugin to work with multisite. I’ve tried several backup plugins and yours is definitely my favourite. I’ll just use one now while waiting for yours, hoping your succeed.

What is strange is that it works perfectly on my previous multisite install. by the way, if you need more info, even confidential, in order to look closer at my installs, don’t hesitate asking.

Please Jason, will you let us know in this topic if/when you succeed with this job ?

    Thanks,
    Fran
