    Jack,

Some time back I mentioned an annoyance that you’d mentioned would get addressed. I’m wondering where that might be in the process.

My co-writer and I will set something as Pending which will trigger an e-mail notification. Great! The problem is we will often realize we screwed up something and go back in and make edits which will then trigger another notification. Our past system used to know about this status and refuse to send more than one notification. On a post just today we had a bad case of back-and-forth with a source that required us editing the piece a half-dozen times so we each got a half-dozen notifications.

We’d like to be able to set an option to keep this from happening. Once a notification goes out, that’s all we need regardless of any further edits before we get our hands on it to do a final edit and Publish.

    Hi @agrajag27,
    Thanks for your message.

Yes, you can do this using the Per-post Override Add-on.

    Thanks,

    Jack,

Thanks. I’m all for supporting the cause. The issue is that this appears to be a manual process every time you edit the post in question. What we used before (and I’ll have to look up but pretty sure it was PSN which stopped working for us for a long time) worked as described. I assume they kept track of status notifications and if the status of a post didn’t change (I hit Pending and then after another later edit hit Pending again, etc.) it would never send a duplicate notification. We would never have to manually choose this. It just works. IF the status actually changes — Pending to Published, then it would send a notification (if one is set up to do so).

    Hi @agrajag27,

Using the Per-post Override add-on, you set the checkbox to ‘Disabled’ for a post on the notification that is normally sent out. This basically says: Do not send out this notification for this post. The checkbox stays checked (or unchecked) until you otherwise change it, thereby, overriding the notification for that particular post.

If you’re using the ‘Post Updated’ notification then I can understand why it’s triggering a notification every time you update the post but if you’re just using the Post Pending Review notification, it shouldn’t trigger for each update that you make.

    Does this make sense?

    Thanks,
    Jack

Thanks Jack. That still seems to be one extra step that will often not happen. We’d much prefer a simple option that says, essentially, “Allow only one notification per Status”. If I understand your approach:

    1. Create a post and set it to Pending.
    2. A notification goes out as it should.
    3. We realize we need to change something and go back into editing mode. While in there we check Disabled to override all subsequent notifications until otherwise changed.
    4. Any further edits will not send a notification.

If that’s correct, then it’s still an extra step that we just don’t see as needed. Also, it raises the question of what happens when the status does change from Pending to Published. Would a rule saying to send a notification for that state also be disabled on that post unless the last person in changes it?

Sorry for all the hassle with this, but it’s one of those small things that we got used to one way and now it’s just a constant minor annoyance.

No, the Per-post Override add-on allows you to override each notification that you have set-up. Any overrides for the Post Pending Review notification will not affect how you set overrides for other notifications, such as New Post Published.

Unfortunately, this is the only way BNFW works at present. It does work well though and whilst it is an extra step for you compared to what you’re used to, it sounds like it will do what you’re looking for.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,
    Jack
