I want to pre-load a small version of a featured image (which I will blur) and replace it with the larger version (identical aspect ratio) once I detect that the large version has loaded.

I want to ensure that when other users crop featured images, the small & large versions are cropped identically.

Setting ‘Images with the same aspect ratio’ to ‘Group together’ is one solution; is there a way I can force this setting as default?

If not, is there some other way I can ensure my two different images are always cropped identically?

That may be possible with some PHP coding. You may override the settings coming from the user and change it to your own. I you are a programmer you may have a direct look on the code – i added several actions and filters where you can hop in.

Out of this i do not plan to implement that feature of my own.
