Enter button not activating search within search box

Hello, I am not sure if this is by design or a bug. When I start entering text into the search box, it works fine. The products start to appear. However, in order to go to the search page I have to click on the “search icon” or “magnifying class icon” (not sure what it is called). Or I can select the product in the initial list.

My issue is that when I type the text and then hit the “Enter” key once, whether on a PC or Mobile phone, the text stays in the box but the list disappears. I then have to hit the “Enter” key again in order to jump to the search page. I would have expect that on the first Enter key input it would take me to the search results.

So was wondering if I had to change a setting somewhere or if this was the default plugin action? If the default action, could it be edited to allow the Webmaster to decide what happens when the Enter key is hit or at least not have to hit the key twice.
