Errant Category “/category/” in my Post URLs

  • Having a squirrelly problem with my new blog/site.

    In general settings, the wordpress address and blog address are both set as the domain name with no directories or anything.

    My permalink setting is /%category%/%postname%
    “Category base” and “topic base” fields on permalinks page are both blank.

    On my three other WordPress sites, those same general and permalink settings give me https://www.siteurl.com/name-of-category/post-title

    But all my posts are having the category/word “/category” inserted before the actual category and post title, in both their location and links throughout the site, like this:
    https://www.siteurl.com/category/name-of-category/post-title

    Any idea what I might be missing or messing up?
