Erratic display of images in 2.0.40

I had to make a manual upgrade to 2.0.40 as the upgrade from within Plugins failed. All files were copied and the plugin activated but a good number of pages with galleries showed no images.
As a result I rolled back to version 2.0.33 which was kept as a backup and all images displayed as expected.
How long till 2.0.41 and will that be any more reliable?
