Error 1001 showing when comments made

Using Avada Theme version 3.9.3
I had some issues when two days ago with this plugin. I had it set so that it auto updates and didn’t notice the issue until a reader wrote and told me she could not comment and was getting an invalid email error message.
I updated the plugin and it seemed to fix the issue on my personal site. Or so I thought.
But this morning I have been told that when a reader made a comment they got an error 1001 resolution error message from CloudFlare, which is a DNS error. My site has been using CloudFlare and the CloudFlare plugin for quite some time without issues but the update two days ago and even version 1.3.24 seem to be causing issues. I have deactivated the plugin and that seems to have resolved the error message.
I also have the WordFence plugin activated, though I would mention that since it has been brought up several times about the bugs in the plugin.
The updates also broke some functions on other sites I work on, but in different ways on each site. I had to manually remove the CloudFlare plugins on two sites because I could not update them like I had on my own site or even deactivate them. On one site it broke the contact form. ON another it was adding strange text content instead of quotation marks and not allowing categories or tags to be saved in a new post. Removing the plugins fixed those issues.
Because it caused different issues on three different sites I am not sure how it is affecting the other sites I maintain and don’t have time to check that every function is working the way it should so I may end up deactivating this plugin on every site or removing it manually when I can’t deactivate. This is very frustrating.
