Error 404 (Page not found) I can work in dashboard but not view site

  • I have had some difficulties with Hostgator and the setting up of my domain.

    I installed Optimize Press then installed another theme, then returned to OPress. So not sure that has caused a problem.

    Today I updated some pages in dashboard, when I clicked “view page” or “Preview changes” I got the Error 404 Page not Found message.

  • Try going into settings > permalinks, and then just click “save changes”. Note: You don’t actually have to change anything.

    This sort of problem is often the result of the .htaccess file needing to be updated. Following the steps above will update the file for you automatically. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, then there is something else going on, but that’s usually what I try first when I run into a 404 problem.
