• after “Smart Slider” and “Autoptimize” as well as “WP Super Cache” worked without problems for a long time, I now get the error “500” for non-logged in site users and the images are not displayed as sliders, but statically one below the other.

As soon as I turned off the Java Script optimization, the site worked perfectly again. I then excluded “Smart Slider” from the Java optimization according to the instructions on https://smartslider.helpscoutdocs.com/article/1976-cache-or-minification and also excluded the files mentioned in the CSS optimization. I also adopted the other settings mentioned for “Autoptimize” and “WP Super Cache”.

Unfortunately, without success, the slider images are displayed incorrectly and the error “500” is reported. That’s why I deactivated the Java Script optimization again. Are there any other possible solutions?

All applications are up to date, the PHP version is 8.1.

    Best wishes

    Ralf

it *sounds* like the JS minifier that AO uses is crashing on some specific JS, can you check the PHP errorlog for relevant errors?

    what you can also to is play around with the JS optimization settings;
    * does this happen when “aggregate JS” is on?
    * does it also happen when “don’t aggregate but defer” is on?
    * does the “also aggregate inline JS” or “also defer inline JS” make any difference?
    * is “minify inline CSS/ JS” on and if so does the problem remain with that option off?
    * is “Minify excluded CSS and JS files?” on if so does the problem remain with that option off?

    1. does this happen when “aggregate JS” is on? Yes!
    2. does it also happen when “don’t aggregate but defer” is on? Yes!
    3. does the “also aggregate inline JS” or “also defer inline JS” make any difference? No!
    4. is “minify inline CSS/ JS” on and if so does the problem remain with that option off? Problem remains…

No relevant errors are reported in the error log, no matter what settings I tried.

how strange .. so even with all JS opt. sub-options off the 500 server error remains?

and does this happen on all pages, or only on pages where smartslider is active?

Internal Server Error 500 is also displayed in the console on pages without a slider when JavaScript optimization is activated.

If you have time to access the page again: I’ll leave the JavaScript optimization active for the next few hours so that the error is visible to all visitors.

ah, it’s the HTML page that has a 500 server error code, I see … that page is returned, but it is not optimized at all which confirms something is breaking the JS optimizer. can you try if excluding wp-content/plugins or wp-content/themes makes any difference?

    Thread Starter ralf58

    (@ralf58)

Excluding wp-content/plugins or wp-content/themes does not provide any improvement.

    and excluding wp-includes?

Excluding “wp-includes” does not privide any improvement.

and when you disable “zusammenfugen” the problem remains (I know I asked already, but I’m stumped really ..)?

I have already tried this, unfortunately without success. I’ll get back to you tomorrow.

I reset the app to the recommended basic settings and then removed all additional options. I then excluded various folders from the optimization. But as long as the optimization for JavaScript occurs, the first mentioned errors arise.
If I don’t find a solution, I’ll have to say goodbye to the app.

the only alternative I see at this point (given the total lack of pointers to what is causing this) is trying to disable (and re-enable) plugins one at a time to try to find which (update) changed things (because this did work before) and if needed also briefly swap themes?

once we have the name of a possible culprit I can try to reproduce on my end then use debugging code to try to find and fix the root cause?

I deactivated applications one after the other and turned on the JavaScript optimization optimization. When I deactivated “DSVGO Pixelmate” I seem to have found what I was looking for – this app was also recently updated. I informed the provider accordingly and asked them to check.

do they have a free version on www.ads-software.com and if so is that the one you’re using? I’d be happy to give that a try!

<span class=”HwtZe” lang=”en”><span class=”jCAhz ChMk0b”><span class=”ryNqvb”>I am in contact with the developer and he was aware of the problem: Autoptimize had apparently changed this function for merging JS and then there was an error with the Pixelmate, which actually should have been fixed with the last update.
