    Greetings,

I’ve really had a bad experience with this plugin over the [ast one month and would really like some help from someone who know what this plugin is all about.

It all began with my use of this plugin and Wordfence and then suddenly the wordfence went crazy and was spamming my site with fake URLs that were throwing up 500 error codes all over the place. I got rid of the wordfence plugin only to find that Cerber had changed behavior and was now blocking google and bing bots from crawling my site.

Searching this site I found someone with the same problem but unsolved… https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/blocking-google-and-msn-crawler/

Now, I understand why Cerber is throwing up so much 403 error and blocking bots trying to crawl all those fake URLs, I have even performed a clean WordPress install to try to solve the issue. However, the new problem is that Cerber cannot complete a single scan of my site. It always aborts midway with an error 500 response code form wp-admin PHP 1

Below are the 2 main error records on my browser console…

scanner.js?ver=7.9.3:395 WP CERBER SCANNER ERROR: Unable to process file /home/kinguufb/public_html/backup-10.20.2018_12-13-56_kinguufb/homedir/public_html/wp-content/themes/KingEze/includes/td_config.php size: 921343 bytes

    scanner.js?ver=7.9.3:138 Server error: 500

No one seems to know what is going on, not my developer and not my host which is Namecheap. My site is under maintenance mode at the moment because I just reinstalled WordPress and have not uploaded any posts. The only plugin I installed was Cerber and still this error. I don’t understand anymore but all this has killed the traffic I suffered to build for 4 years!

From my search on this site, I am not the only victim. All other topics were marked as resolved where they were not. Hence, I cannot find a solution anywhere.

    Please, someone help.

Please, note that I have raised the PHP memory limit on my site to 512M as directed by my host here…

It seems you use a weird backup plugin or it’s misconfigured or something like that. Because having a backup on the same server as your website is ridiculous. You need to delete this backup folder: /home/kinguufb/public_html/backup-10.20.2018_12-13-56_kinguufb/

It was the Updraftplus backup plugin i sued and it creates backups on the sever and in my off-site storage location at the same time.

The issue has been resolved though. It was a memory issue alright but the weird thing is that the memory_limit had to be raised all the way to 768MB before the problem stopped. That’s too much even to a beginner like me cos the server gives me just 1GB RAM.

This a new installation and apart from those back-ups still there on the server, notthing else is.

WP Cerber seems to be scanning the whole server, hence its spotting the old backups that are not even on this new installation.

    Any advice?

The plugin scans the website root folder and all nested folders only. But it might reach any file on the web server ONLY IF:

    1. In one of the WordPress folders, on your website, there is a symbolic link to an arbitrary file outside the website home folder.
    2. The web server is misconfigured and permits access to any files outside the website home folder.
