Hi @techpod,
Sorry for the confusion! From your previous message, it sounded like you were experiencing two different error messages:
im receiving the issue now: Data error in Analytics
<p>There has been a critical error on this website.</p><p>Learn more about troubleshooting WordPress.</p>
08:38
this is a new error usually its the cURL 6
08:39There has been a critical error on this website
is a WordPress error that typically occurs when there is a theme or plugin conflict, or the WordPress code is otherwise somehow broken. The cURL 6 error that you have been seeing in Site Kit is a Site Kit-specific error that, as I noted previously, is often the result of some kind of configuration on a site’s server.
Are you still experiencing both errors? Have you heard back from the SiteGround team?
Hi Bethany
That error message was a one off, and I haven’t experienced it since. So let’s focus on the cURL 6 error.
The team looked into it and all appears optimal. They expressed that an issue like this falls outside of their scope.
As mentioned I have 6-7 sites on this plan and only one is experiencing the issue, so I dont believe its a server config issue
Hi @techpod,
I’d be happy to check your current setup and suggest some troubleshooting steps to try and determine the source of the issue. Firstly in order to troubleshoot any WordPress plugin conflicts please follow the steps below:
- Login to your site from a Chrome browser incognito window
- Install and activate the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin.
- Navigate to “Plugins > Health Check & Troubleshooting > Troubleshoot”.
- From the same screen click on the “Available Plugins” tab at the top right and then click on the “Enable” option next to “Site Kit by Google”
- View your Site Kit summary dashboard once more (along with your Analytics dashboard)
You can exit troubleshooting mode afterwards.
If the same cURL error appears then this is most likely something at host level for this specific site impacting Site Kit reporting, possibly with your SSL certificate configuration for this domain. You’ll find others reporting similar issues not specific to Site Kit but when using the Google PHP Libraries here.
Let me know once you perform the tests about anyway.
@techpod Are you still experiencing issues here? If so, can you work through the testing that @jamesosborne suggested and let us know what you find? Thanks!
I saw the issue this morning, I just havent had the chance to troubleshoot the steps advised yet
@techpod Sounds good. Just let us know what you find and we’re happy to help with next steps.
Apologies for the delay, but I tried several times to replicate the steps you suggested for troubleshooting.
Unfortinalty when I see the error, buy the time ive followed the steps and only activated the SK plugin to see if the error disappears. I look back on the live version of the site with all the plugins still active and the error isn’t showing anymore.
Im also getting search console errors saying my text is too small or overlapping clickable elements on mobile. but when I rerun the scan it says all clear.
bit of a strange one
@techpod Apologies for the delay. It does indeed sounds like something unusual is occurring although periodically. As it’s occurring on one site only can you check for any different .htaccess rules for this impacted site? I can see there are additional rules based on the Site Health information you previously provided.
Im also getting search console errors saying my text is too small or overlapping clickable elements on mobile. but when I rerun the scan it says all clear.
I can’t be sure what’s occurring in this case, we can only assist with Site Kit related queries. Did you try posting the query to the product experts at the Search Console Help Center?
As we didn’t receive a response I’ll mark this as resolved. Feel free to open a new support topic if you continue to encounter issues, or reopen this topic and we’d be happy to assist. cURL errors are server related and while this is occurring intermittently, making it harder to troubleshoot I would suggest checking your configurations, including your cacert.pem file.
Hi all, been trying to get to the bottom of it. Been speaking with Uncanny who confirm the same as I thought. Looking at the error logs its a Site kit issue
Hi Simon, I'm not sure if this is a configuration issue or a bug in the plugin but it's trying to open all the PHP files in all the plugins and overwhelming the server in the process. You'd have to take it up with Google Site Kit's support. Apologies for the late response, and thank you for sharing the additional insight. It looks like there are a number of plugins and not specific Site Kit that’s somehow resulting in your hosting server limits being reached, which is unusual, we didn’t encounter this from any other users previously.
If you’re able to check with Siteground the current uLimit rate I’d be happy to take this up with the engineering team.
Depending on your hosting package you may be able to increase your ulimit capacity yourself if you have ssh access, see below:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/14748499/fatal-error-too-many-open-filesI can’t be sure why you’re not encountering the same messages with some sites although maybe there are difference resources applied per site.
@techpod As we haven’t received a response, I’ll mark this as resolved. Feel free to open a new support topic if you continue to encounter issues, or reopen this topic and we’d be happy to assist. Thank you!
