    Greetings!

I have a problem similar to this (https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/site-wont-save-looks-like-somethings-gone-wrong/) thread, but not exactly, so I am making a new topic…

While customizing my new website, I receive a persistent error. It only happens when I try to add pages to the main menu, not during any other update (i.e. changing color, font, etc.). Every time I attempt to “Publish” the addition of a page to the menu, I receive the following message:

“Looks like something’s gone wrong. Wait a couple seconds, and then try again.”

Accordingly, the changes do not save. I cannot add any pages to my website. Here are the remedies I’ve attempted without any success:

    – deactivated all plugins
    – logged out, clear browser’s cache and cookies, logged back in
    – switched browser – from Chrome to Explorer (current versions)
    – switched theme – from OceanWP to Twenty Seventeen
    – deleted and re-added all pages
    – updated php to version7
    – searched extensively via Google for anyone else experiencing this problem
    – updated WP from version 4.8.4 to 4.9.1
    – confirmed that all themes are up to date
    – I’ve even deleted the entire website from the server, reinstalled WP, and rebuilt the site

Here are the Chrome JavaScript errors:

Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found) /wp-content/themes/oceanwp/assets/css/devs/font-awesome.min.css?ver=4.7.0

JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed, version 1.4.1 load-scripts.php:9

JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed, version 1.4.1 jquery-migrate.min.js:2

Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found) font-awesome.min.css

JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed, version 1.4.1 jquery-migrate.min.js?ver=1.4.1:2

This error pops up specifically when I try to add pages to menu:

    POST https://mywebsite.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php 406 (Not Acceptable) load-scripts.php?c=1&load[]=jquery-core,jquery-migrate,underscore,wp-a11y,wp-util,jquery-ui-core,jquery-ui-widget,jquery-ui-mouse,jquery-ui-sortable,jquery-&load[]=ui-draggable,jquery-ui-droppable,backbone,wp-backbone,wp-ajax-response,jquery-color,wp-lists,postbox,nav-menu,shortcode,utils,me&load[]=dia-models,moxiejs,plupload,wp-plupload&ver=4.9.1:4

I am doing this all via a current PC running Win 10 Pro up to date. Host is Arvixe. Additionally, if you have advice on the “Failed to load resource” errors above, I’d be grateful for your insight.

I would greatly appreciate any guidance you could pass along.

    Thanks!

  • I am having the same exact issue and I see we have something in common, I am also hosting on Arvixe. I’m wondering if it’s an issue exclusive to Arvixe. I am only having trouble when I create a menu when I go to publish or save I get, “Looks like something’s gone wrong. Wait a couple seconds, and then try again.” Please post the solution if you can. Thank you in advance.

@danny114: As you have already tried so many options, one thing you can check is for server space, something like this happens to me once and i contact hosting and they said it is because of limited server space. In my case, i was unable to upload any images through media library.
Other then that, i suggest you to have a local setup of your site (through WAMP Server) on your machine and check if you can replicate the issue or not. If no, then this is definetly server side issue.
Let me know if this resolves the issue.

I have the same problem, and this probblem begin when i have upgrade my WP, is not a problem with server space.. please HELP

    Greetings!

I thought I’d post a note stating that I was able to resolve my problem, and hopefully it will help you as well.

The solution came via a few rounds of my hosting service white-listing Mod-Security rules on the server.

“Mod-Security is an Apache module that helps to protect your website from various attacks. It is used to block commonly known exploits by use of regular expressions and rule sets and is enabled on all servers by default. Mod-security cannot be disabled on shared servers.”

Using Chrome, and while on the page-adding section of WordPress, I clicked Chrome’s menu – more tools – developer tools, and I was able to report the exact errors to the web host. They in turn white-listed specific rules until I was able to add pages to my WordPress website menu. Hope this helps you.

    Cheers!

    @danny114 (et al)…

I’m having the same issue. Many people are, and probably on various hosting providers (many are trying to get their theme designer to figure out the prob). I had a strong suspicion from the beginning it might be a ModSecurity issue, and I am glad @danny114 has spearheaded this.

Funny, though, first troubleshooting tip from so many “helpers” is to disable all plugins. I don’t even have plugins installed. There goes that theory! ??

Anyway, I can list the errors, too, as @danny114 did, but what would be super helpful is if @danny114 can find out what rules were specifically white-listed and post here so we can ask our hosting providers to do the same (ironically, mine is also Arvixe, and I have accounts on two different servers).

    Thanks! ??
