Hi, checking the Google Analytics settings within the Altervista platform I noticed this message in red:

We have detected that an existing Analytics tag already exists on your site (ID UA-196344121-1), but it appears that your account does not have access to this Analytics property. You can remove the existing tag and connect to another account or request access to this property from your team.

    How can I solve?
The data was all available but I tried to disconnect Analytics and reconnect it and I was no longer able to associate it with my site.
Can you give me a solution? Thanks.

I add that visiting my Google Analytics account, the uploaded property has this Tracking

    ID: UA-166274863-1.

Not how to fix it for it to work. Something must have happened some time ago.

Thanks for reaching out. Can you confirm you’re using the free version of Altervista? If so I’ll check this myself using the same platform.

Yes, I confirm that I use the free version of Altervista.

Thanks for the update. I’ve checked the same Altervista service and I’m able to reproduce the same notice. This is as a result of the free version of Altervista adding their own Analytics snippet to users site. I didn’t see any configuration option to disable this however you can check this with the Altervista support team.

If you can’t insert your Google Analytics snippet via Site Kit you may also wish to manually add your own. Just note that it’s not ideal to have more than one Analytics snippet place on your site. As this is a Google Analytics recommendation Site Kit doesn’t allow you to insert additional snippets on your site when the plugin determines an existing snippet.

I did not have this warning a while ago. So I think something happened.
Unfortunately, I don’t really know how Analytics works.
Is there any way to fix this?

@dariuskri If this didn’t occur previously it’s possible that Altervista added their own Analytics snippet after you first attempted setup. I can’t be sure. I did check my own Altervista test account and I can confirm the same Analytics snippet (referencing the same Analytics property ID) is placed automatically.

Is there any way to fix this?

I would image that as this is a free service this is a feature that cannot be altered. You can however reach out to the Altervista support team and ask about the possibility of removing this Analytics snippet.

You can also insert your own snippet manually as suggested above.

If you prefer me to check with the Altervista team I can also do so – to confirm that this Analytics snippet is automatically placed on all users sites.

I just want Analytics to work properly and that I can reconnect it with Altervista. I am unfamiliar with Analytics and have no idea what to do, nor do I know how to manually enter the ID in the code.

@dariuskri I understand, it’s important to gather statistics on your site and keep track of it’s performance. If you’re looking to use Site Kit to place your Analytics snippet this is not possible when using the Altervista free service. This doesn’t stop you from inserting your own snippet manually however, as mentioned above. You can then still use Google Analytics on your site.

You’ll also find support from the Altervista team from another user asking the same question in their forums (You’ll need to translate that page):
    https://forum.it.altervista.org/wordpress/186456-usare-google-analytics-su-blog-altervista.html

Sorry we can’t be more assistance on this. You’ll need to either upgrade your Altervista account, contact the Altervista team or add your Analytics snippet manually.

@jamesosborne Thanks anyway, I’ll try to solve it with the support of Altervista.

Not a problem. It’s good for us to be aware also, should other users be looking to setup Site Kit with Altervista. Best of luck with your site going forward.
