Error: bigbluebutton plugin version 1.3.1 with wordpress version 3.5

Same problem, I did the upgrade to WP 3.5
Then upgrade plugins and after that bigbluebutton generate this error to me

The update function is not working fine. Although a clean install of the plugin is working fine for me.

Can you confirm if deleting the current version and installing the new one solves your problem.

If it doesn’t please provide more details on how to reproduce it.

Hello, As per your message, I deleted the old version of bbb plugin and then installed the newer version. However, when I try to activate the plugin, I get the error: Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error. Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /home/content/08/8545808/html/wp-content/plugins/bigbluebutton/php/bbb_api.php on line 462

Could you please elaborate on what you mean by “clean install”. Is simply deleting the older version of bbb plugin sufficient or do I also need to remove few other files.

I remove everything from my installation.
I went to my hosted file manager and verified there was no bigbluebutton directory on the plugin directory.
I did try installing fresh plugin, same error.
Delete everything again, try upload the file from my computer, still the same error.
The plugin can not be activated.
But when you click on edit, in the wordpress plugin area to see the bbb options.
This is the error I’ve got.

Error 406 – Not Acceptable

An error has occurred. Generally a 406 error is caused because a request has been blocked by Mod Security. If you believe that your request has been blocked by mistake please contact the web site owner.

I hope this help you to find some clue on the error.

With clean install I mean exactly what amigliora did.

In my case I have a new wordpress installation and I installed the plugin for the first time. This means that I did’t have the previous version installed, hence I didn’t update the plugin.

But anyway, the problem in your case is that we are using an anonymous function for sorting the recordings that only works for php 5.3. You might have php 5.2 in your server. I just installed an environment with php 5.2 and I was able to reproduce the error. Can you confirm if this is your case?

We probably are going to change that method, but I need to take a close look to the problem.

In the mean while, if you cannot update to php5.3 at least, you should better go back to the bigbluebutton 1.0.1 version.

Keep in mind though that the master branch is the latest development code, so not always is working. You can relay on the tags and branches. Keep an eye on these that are labeled as SNAPSHOT.

It is completely right, the plugin works perfect with PHP 5.3 and not with 5.2
I asked our hosted provider to move ours to a system with PHP 5.3 and now the plugin works great with no errors.
I would recommend to make a comment about it if you are not having plans to make it work backwards.

Another comment is the short code, generate a box with the BBB conference name, user and password at the top of the page, always.
I was trying to place a text before, then the access to the conference room, but I fail ??
Is that the way it works?
or I am doing something wrong?

Please advice, and thanks for the plugin is a great add to launch BBB from the web page ??

Updating the PHP to 5.3 solved the issue. Thank you jfederico. However, now I have another issue to bbb plugin. If you prefer, I can post the following question as a new thread.

Though I can login to the bbb conference using the bbb plugin ver 1.3.1; I am not able to see the recording. I checked the “record meeting” option when I created the meeting; however I do not see any recorded meetings in the bbb plugin configuration page on wordpress site.

You are doing just right. This is the way it works. This shortcode is meant to help for making a very simple landing page. The behavior can be changed, but for now it is how it is.
