Although both Mail Chimp and Opt-in Cat are configured correctly (I’ve used both for 2 years), someone entering their email address gets “Error: can’t add user”. This happens on the popup, widget, and short-code forms.

The bizarre part is that sometimes (not often) the process works. Mail Chimp does add the user and sends the correct notifications.

I’ve tried disabling plug-ins and adding them back in, and deleting and reinstalling opt-in cat manually.

    I am using version 1.55.

    Hi,

There’s a few things I’d suggest that might solve it:

1 – Make sure the API key is set for the form, maybe try to reset it so it will reload the mailing lists

2 – Right below the API key make sure the mailing list is set

Can you provide the URL of your website this happens on? I can try it out and see if I notice any errors on the front end

Reset API key. Mailing list is set. There is only one.

    URL is https://www.lindsayedmunds.com

Thank you kindly for any help you can give me. This is a critical problem in addition to being very weird.

    Hi,

I don’t exactly know why that issue occurred, MailChimp was rejecting the requests to add users (giving authentication error), but the issue seems to be fixed by updating to the latest version — which I’ve just released minutes ago.

Feel free to let us know if you have any other issues or have any questions

Problem persists. Inconsistent rejection of signups by MailChimp. You’ve vetted my website. I’ve updated to latest version of Opt-in Cat. What else is there to do?

For some reason it is very inconsistent; some e-mail addresses work and some don’t. I will need further testing..

Do you think it would help to reset API key?

It might help, if you don’t have anything else that is using that API key I think it would be worth a try

For what it’s worth, a tech at SiteGround, my web host, performed a core downgrade to WP 4.2.2 but the issue persisted, and he reverted the changes and returned WordPress to 4.5.1.

Oh, I had hopes for generating a new API, but the problem persists.

We’ve released a fix for this in 1.5.7. It looks like sometimes MailChimp would reject adding users when the name field was blank. We now include a default for the name if it is not given (unnamed user) for MailChimp.
