Error changing customer data

I understand that after users create an account on your site and attempt to log in, they see an error:

Display name is a required field

I was not able to to replicate this kind of behaviour on my test site so most likely, this behaviour is isolated to your WordPress/WooCommerce install and either your theme or one of your plugins prevents the display name from being assigned automatically:

If you’d like to keep using the current set of plugins and your theme – you may want to try adding the code to your functions.php file as described in this thread:

This will make this field non-mandatory.
