Hi everyone,
There is still the possibility of downgrading to the plugin version 1.6.1.
In this version, the checkout validation happens immediately when the PayPal button is clicked.
However, please be aware with that version, we did receive reports about an increased order failure rate for orders as a result of conflicting behavior with certain third-party plugins. That means, payments were successful in PayPal, but the WooCommerce order could potentially fail, sending mixed messages to the customer. (PayPal success, Woo failure)
We recommend always using the latest plugin version, as the functionality was changed on purpose to temporarily prevent the previously reported problems.
The checkout validation before opening the PayPal window will come back probably with the update after the next one.
The PayPal Standard integration is no longer supported and also not recommended, but it could be enabled with a filter: https://developer.woocommerce.com/2021/07/12/developer-advisory-paypal-standard-will-be-hidden-on-new-installs/
@andrea2121 The behavior of the credit card smart button is controlled by PayPal. Some users may need to only enter credit card details, while others may be asked to register a PayPal account. This depends on many factors outside of the control of the plugin.
Enabling the PayPal Card Processing (if available) is the only way to guarantee users not having to login/register a PayPal account.
In any case, this issue will likely be resolved with an update sometime in February.
Kind regards,
Niklas
