I have a client site where their Instagram feed stopped working. When trying to reconnect to Instagram with the Personal account option I get this error:

error_type: OAuthException, code: 400, error_message: Your account is connected to Facebook account, and your Facebook account’s future off-Facebook activity is currently turned off

My client does have that setting on though. The Instagram account is really a Professional account connected to their business’ Facebook page. If I choose to connect as a Business account, it sends me to log in to Facebook, but I do not have my clients login and I shouldn’t need it for this.

What is causing this error if future off-Facebook activity is already on?

    Thanks!

    Hi @aaronbazinet,

Thank you for reaching out to us for assistance. Please try reconnecting the account with these steps:

Go to WordPress Dashboard > Instagram Feed > Settings, click the red trashcan icon on the account under Manage Sources, and then click Add Source and recreate the connection. After this, please go to Instagram Feed > All Feeds > (click the name or pencil icon to edit the feed) > Settings > Sources and ensure your account is selected here.

It would be best to connect the account as a business profile. Instagram/Facebook requires that you authenticate using Facebook to make the connection in this way, but we have a tool that will allow your client to retrieve their account ID and access token so that they don’t have to give you access to their Facebook account: https://smashballoon.com/instagram-feed/token/. Then you can use the Add Account Manually button when creating the connection and enter this information there.

?If this does not resolve the issue, or if you need any other assistance, please let me know.
    ?

    ?Best regards,

    Louis

I’m seeing the same issue on a handful of sites.

Even following the link in the comment above this I see the following error.

    {“error_type”: “OAuthException”, “code”: 400, “error_message”: “Your account is connected to Facebook account, and your Facebook account’s future off-Facebook activity is currently turned off.”}

    Hi @cake4shope,

Thank you for reaching out to us for assistance. Due to how the Instagram/Facebook API works, if the future off-Facebook activity setting is disabled, you can not use our Instagram or Facebook apps to display the feed. In order to connect the account and display the feed, you will have to connect using an Instagram account with its connected Facebook account that does have this enabled. There is currently no way around this since it is a limitation in the API directly, which we can not affect.

You can turn off-Facebook activity on or off here: https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=your_facebook_information

You can also find detailed information about the off-Facebook activity here: https://www.facebook.com/help/1224342157705160

If the steps above do not resolve this issue, please send us a support request here and include the System Info from the Help page of the plugin settings, and we’ll be happy to investigate further.

    Best regards,

    Louis

We have turned off-Facebook activity on, but we are still getting the same error on Instagram: “Your account is connected to Facebook account, and your Facebook account’s future off-Facebook activity is currently turned off.”. Even though the setting is ON.

I’ve tried connecting as Personal and Business to no avail.

If I choose Business account, then I’m redirected to Facebook instead of Instagram and if I log in with their Facebook credentials I get an error. I’ll copy the text of the error message below:

    Sorry, something went wrong.

We're working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.

    Hi @cake4shope,

Thanks for the update and sorry to hear this is still not working for you. Could you try connecting the Instagram account as a Business Profile using our guide here:https://smashballoon.com/doc/instagram-business-profiles/?instagram and ensure that Facebook account used to complete the steps in the guide also has the Future Off-Facebook activity turned on?

If you continue to get errors or need any further assistance, please send us a support request here and include the System Info from the Help page of the plugin settings.

    Thanks!

    Louis
