Error connecting PayPal: “only the person who created the PayPal account”

    Hi there!

    I’m trying to connect my client’s PayPal account as a payment gateway but I keep getting this error:

    “Looks like you’re trying to connect to an existing PayPal account. For security reasons, only the person who created the PayPal account can do that.”

    I’m almost certain this error message has nothing to do with the plugin, but still wanted to ask if someone could direct me in the right direction. Any idea what’s causing this?

    Hi @adeelahmadk,

    I haven’t seen this error before. Are you trying to log in with the actual account details, or is this some linked-account setup?
    This most likely relates to how the PayPal account is configured and maybe the PayPal merchant support can tell you more about it.

    You can get the REST API credentials also manually from the PayPal developer site: https://woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-paypal-payments/#manual-credential-input
    The manual connection is not as convenient as the onboarding wizard but should work if the wizard fails for some reason.

    Hi @niklasinpsyde,

    Thanks for the reply and yes it helps clear the confusion regarding the onboarding process. It appears that the credentials we used were one of the user accounts created in the main business account. I’ve conveyed this information to my client. We’ll hopefully be able to complete the integration process with the original business account credentials now.

    I hope you don’t mind if I keep this thread open until we’ve finished the integration process.
